Draft Grade — Giants

The Giants found their guy under center in Ward: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Jordan James, the No. 52 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 134th overall pick.

Cam Ward is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Reaching for Mertz left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In pick 3 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
They took Tyler Booker at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick65 Rnd3 Josh Simmons
Taking Josh Simmons in No. 65 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick103 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
A conviction pick on Daylen Everette at Round 4, Pick 2 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jordan James
They robbed the room for Jordan James here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick153 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at pick No. 153 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick219 Rnd7 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in slot 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick246 Rnd7 Graham Mertz
A big swing on Graham Mertz at the 246th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
