Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureC+
The Patriots robbed the room for Starks. Final grade: B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Malaki Starks, the No. 27 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 58th pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Reaching for Ingram-Dawkins left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The veteran additions, A.J. Brown chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 17 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick32 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In pick No. 32 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick58 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
The board fumbled Malaki Starks all the way to the 58th pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at the 106th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick144 Rnd5 Logan Brown
By-the-book stuff, Logan Brown at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
A reach for Willie Lampkin in No. 165; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins in slot 171 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220 Rnd7 Alijah Huzzie
No drama and no debate, Alijah Huzzie went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 4. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick238 Rnd7 Sam Brown Jr.
They jumped the gun on Sam Brown Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
