FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Skattebo: A-. Somebody in slot 244 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Cam Skattebo, the No. 114 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They are betting Nash proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In No. 12 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge slipping to pick 39 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. in Round 2, Pick 9 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick72
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in the 72nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in the 76th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick147
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Taking Danny Stutsman in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at slot 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick197
Rnd6
Nick Nash
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nick Nash well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick233
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at No. 233 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick244
Rnd7
Cam Skattebo
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at pick No. 244. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
