Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Colts: B-.

The Colts did not so much draft Theo Johnson as overpay for him, 29 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Colts indulged a want in Tampa while a need in wide receiver, quarterback and other spots stayed open. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Greenfield.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
In pick 15 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
Pick46 Rnd2 T.J. Tampa
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with T.J. Tampa while clear needs at wide receiver, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick94 Rnd3 Theo Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick124 Rnd4 James Williams
No edge and no loss on James Williams in the 124th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick133 Rnd4 Trevor Keegan
They liked Trevor Keegan enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 133. The roster fit checks out.
Pick151 Rnd5 Brennan Jackson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brennan Jackson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick191 Rnd6 Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence is a better player than Round 6, Pick 16 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick234 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 234th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
