FutureA+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Coleman: B+. Somebody in slot 63 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Keon Coleman, the No. 36 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, Javon Kinlaw leading the way.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick 1 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Taking Keon Coleman in No. 63 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bralen Trice in the 75th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
They let Jalen McMillan come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 11. The roster fit checks out.
Pick112
Rnd4
Trey Benson
Nice patience on Trey Benson, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
They liked Theo Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 123rd overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick143
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nehemiah Pritchett in slot 143. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
They will replay Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 176 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick209
Rnd6
Myles Cole
Myles Cole in the 209th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
