Draft Grade — Saints
Overall C+
ValueD NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints land in the muddy middle: C+.

The tape said wait; the Saints did not. Branson Robinson went at Round 4, Pick 32, a good 150 picks before the board was ready.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

If Caleb Banks and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Caleb Banks
In pick No. 8 they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick42 Rnd2 Zion Young
Zion Young at No. 42 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick73 Rnd3 Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane in the 73rd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Branson Robinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Branson Robinson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick136 Rnd4 Eric Gentry
A wild overpay on Eric Gentry in Round 4, Pick 36, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick148 Rnd5 Sam Roush
Sam Roush at slot 148 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick170 Rnd5 Bud Clark
A reach for Bud Clark in Round 5, Pick 32; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick188 Rnd6 Kamran James
They reached a country mile for Kamran James at pick No. 188, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
