Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Lew from sliding. Grade: B-. When a board-topper like Connor Lew slides to the Round 4 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The Louis reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In No. 28 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
No drama and no debate, Olaivavega Ioane went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick59
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
A reach for Lee Hunter in the 59th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jadarian Price at pick No. 69 is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Connor Lew
Connor Lew at slot 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
A reach on Kyle Louis in pick 128; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165
Rnd5
Bud Clark
A premium they did not need to pay, Bud Clark a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick243
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at Round 7, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick244
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King at the 244th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
