FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Slaughter: B. The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jake Slaughter fell into pick 63. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Oke pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 28 they get a three-down second-level presence. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon in Round 2, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to No. 63, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at the 69th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick106
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in pick 106 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick125
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the 125th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick128
Rnd4
David Oke
A premium they did not need to pay, David Oke a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jakobe Thomas in the Round 4 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick165
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell in pick No. 165 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick243
Rnd7
Alex Harkey
Alex Harkey in No. 243 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244
Rnd7
Micah Morris
Micah Morris at pick 244 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
