Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Texans.

Nobody else had Isaac TeSlaa anywhere near Round 6, Pick 11. The Texans did, by 46 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Jeanty at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the 25th overall pick they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick79 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at Round 3, Pick 15 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick97 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A reasonable price with a little left over, Charles Grant in the 97th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
By-the-book stuff, Kyle Williams at No. 166 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick187 Rnd6 Isaac TeSlaa
They reached into another round for Isaac TeSlaa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236 Rnd7 Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford at No. 236 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick241 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
A real head-scratcher, Hayden Conner in pick 241 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
