Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent Round 6, Pick 13 on Trey Taylor, a name most had 81 spots down the list. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Allen makes the weekend a net positive.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the 42nd overall pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick86
Rnd3
Cam Hart
They paid a round early for Cam Hart in Round 3, Pick 23, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick123
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
They read the board right and Braelon Allen was the payoff at pick 123. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick in No. 127 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick188
Rnd6
Trey Taylor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Taylor. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick247
Rnd7
Josh Wallace
Josh Wallace in No. 247 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
