The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Noel: B. The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaylin Noel, the No. 96 name on the board, in slot 121. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In No. 31 they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick85
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ozzy Trapilo. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick89
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the tight end. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in slot 95 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jaylin Noel
You do not let a wide receiver like Jaylin Noel reach pick 121 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Value with a capital V on Anthony Belton in the 127th pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick167
Rnd5
Logan Brown
Logan Brown in Round 5, Pick 28 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick243
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Isaac TeSlaa in the 243rd overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
