The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Moore: B. When a board-topper like Malachi Moore slides to the 167th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Skattebo lower, and that gap is the story.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 31st overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick85
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
They paid up for Cam Skattebo at No. 85 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A clean, defensible pick in the 89th pick with a little surplus value in Ozzy Trapilo. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
By-the-book stuff, Jaylin Noel at slot 95 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
The board had Jared Wilson higher than pick 121, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 26 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Circle this one: Malachi Moore at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick243
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
The board fumbled Isaac TeSlaa all the way to pick No. 243, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
