FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Texans a A-. Thirty-one other rooms let Tacario Davis slide, and the Texans were the ones holding the card at the 159th overall pick. Highway robbery. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
Jackson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jake Slaughter and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Jake Slaughter
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick61
Rnd2
CJ Allen
They will replay CJ Allen at pick 61 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Parker Brailsford
The board had cheaper options than Parker Brailsford at the 67th overall pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick96
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
Germie Bernard at Round 3, Pick 32 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Caleb Tiernan
Circle this one: Caleb Tiernan at pick 122 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick159
Rnd5
Tacario Davis
They barely believed it either: Tacario Davis still on the board at pick No. 159. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick184
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Taylen Green at No. 184. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick189
Rnd6
Amare Campbell
A linebacker of that caliber at the 189th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick196
Rnd6
DJ Campbell
They reached into another round for DJ Campbell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick219
Rnd7
Barion Brown
A clean, defensible pick in slot 219 with a little surplus value in Barion Brown. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick238
Rnd7
J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at the 238th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241
Rnd7
J.Michael Sturdivant
The board had J.Michael Sturdivant higher than pick No. 241, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick242
Rnd7
A'Marion Peterson
They did well to land A'Marion Peterson in the 242nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick255
Rnd7
Kaleb Jackson
Kaleb Jackson at slot 255 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
