Overall

FutureB+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Elijhah Badger in pick 236. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A slide stopped in pick 49, with Tyler Booker worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jaylin Noel
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylin Noel at pick No. 58, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the 81st pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor is a better player than the 89th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick90
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in slot 90 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick196
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in the 196th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236
Rnd7
Elijhah Badger
Elijhah Badger at Round 7, Pick 20 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick241
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
They paid sticker price for Kitan Crawford in pick 241, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick244
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They jumped the gun on Teddye Buchanan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
