The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Ransaw: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Caleb Ransaw, the No. 211 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 236.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In pick No. 25 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 26, where Aireontae Ersery graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
They barely believed it either: Jayden Higgins still on the board at No. 79. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Cameron Williams in the 89th overall pick, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
They let Bhayshul Tuten come to them and pounced at slot 166. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
Caleb Ransaw in pick 236 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick241
Rnd7
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
