FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Texans did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to running back, which was the need that mattered most. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
That McMillan pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will need Hawes to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 25th overall pick they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
A slide stopped in slot 58, with Aireontae Ersery worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick81
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
A clean, defensible pick in the 81st pick with a little surplus value in Mason Taylor. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick89
Rnd3
Charles Grant
They took Charles Grant at par in No. 89, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick153
Rnd5
Nick Nash
Nick Nash in pick 153 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193
Rnd6
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in Round 6, Pick 17 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
Dante Trader Jr. in pick No. 236 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
