Draft Grade — Texans

Larceny in the 79th overall pick lands the Texans a B, Johnson and all. Somebody in No. 79 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Kaleb Johnson, the No. 48 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the 25th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
They read the board right and Aireontae Ersery was the payoff at slot 58. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick79
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jack Bech
Jack Bech at No. 89 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick166
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin in pick 166 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick236
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at pick No. 236 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick241
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
A tidy little value on Dante Trader Jr. in the 241st pick, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
