Draft Grade — Texans

FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Hampton: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Omarion Hampton at the 58th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They will need Simpkins III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In pick 25 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at the 58th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick89
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in Round 3, Pick 25 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ozzy Trapilo at the 90th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A straight-up fair deal on Jake Majors at No. 127, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick166
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 166 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236
Rnd7
CJ Dippre
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ Dippre. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III at slot 241 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
