Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Hampton: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Omarion Hampton had no business being available in slot 58, and the Texans did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Dumas-Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the 25th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at the 58th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
The board had Tate Ratledge higher than No. 79, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick89 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah Bond at pick No. 89. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
No drama and no debate, Seth McLaughlin went about where he belonged in pick 166. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A reach on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 7, Pick 20; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jordan Hancock in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
