Larceny in slot 210 lands the Texans a B, Blue and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Jaydon Blue, the No. 179 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 210th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Gadsden II to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 25 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
They read the board right and Kaleb Johnson was the payoff at the 59th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Noel still on the board at Round 3, Pick 15. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at No. 89 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jalen Rivers
Jalen Rivers at slot 166 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick210
Rnd6
Jaydon Blue
Jaydon Blue at the 210th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Simeon Barrow Jr.
Simeon Barrow Jr. in pick No. 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241
Rnd7
Mac McWilliams
No edge and no loss on Mac McWilliams in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
