Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Marshall Jr. should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jason Marshall Jr. got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the Round 7 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In slot 25 they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery at No. 58 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick79 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Good price on Ozzy Trapilo in the 89th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick166 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
No edge and no loss on Kyle Williams in Round 5, Pick 28; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jason Marshall Jr.
Taking Jason Marshall Jr. in the 236th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A straight-up fair deal on Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick No. 241, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
