Draft Grade — Texans
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB+
The Texans won the night they stopped Bowman Jr. from sliding. Grade: A-.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Billy Bowman Jr. tumbling to the Texans in pick 148 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

The Hawes reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The phones were where this weekend was really won.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.

Pick Analysis
Pick49 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
A quiet steal in the 49th overall pick: Tyler Booker for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick58 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at pick 58. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel at slot 79 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick81 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the 89th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick148 Rnd5 Billy Bowman Jr.
A safety of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 10 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick166 Rnd5 Bhayshul Tuten
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bhayshul Tuten at No. 166 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick193 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues in pick No. 193 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Hawes well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
No edge and no loss on Mac McWilliams in the 241st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
