Roe DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans let Ransaw fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Caleb Ransaw slide 29 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In No. 25 they get a security blanket over the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 58 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Isaiah Bond at the 79th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant in the 89th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
They paid sticker price for Seth McLaughlin in slot 166, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
Somehow Caleb Ransaw was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 20, and they pounced on premier safety value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick241
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in pick 241 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
