Draft Grade — Texans

FutureA+
The Texans let Hampton fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. Somebody in pick 66 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Omarion Hampton, the No. 30 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The Conner pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick66
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at pick 66 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
They read the board right and Elijah Arroyo was the payoff at the 86th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick89
Rnd3
Charles Grant
They paid sticker price for Charles Grant in slot 89, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at No. 125 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick166
Rnd5
Jalen Rivers
Jalen Rivers at pick No. 166 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jarquez Hunter at the 199th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at Round 7, Pick 20 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
A clean, defensible pick in pick 241 with a little surplus value in Jermari Harris. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick251
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
By-the-book stuff, Teddye Buchanan at pick No. 251 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
