Roe DRAFTING FOR THECardinals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Cardinals, and a B- to prove it. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cardinals reached some 33 spots for Chris Paul Jr., and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Leonard to cover a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Will Campbell
Good price on Will Campbell in the Round 1 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick47
Rnd2
Chris Paul Jr.
Value said wait; Chris Paul Jr. in the 47th overall pick says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick78
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
Nothing to complain about; Isaiah Bond went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jamaree Caldwell
A reach for Jamaree Caldwell in slot 115; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick152
Rnd5
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard in the 152nd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam in No. 225 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
