The Texans kept it disciplined and banked a B. The Hayden Conner selection is the head-turner. The Texans reached 30 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Bryant.
Job largely done: running back settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a wrecking ball inside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 58 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams is a better player than the 79th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at No. 97 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick166
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Pat Bryant at the Round 5 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick187
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 187 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
No edge and no loss on Carson Vinson in the 236th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick241
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A wild overpay on Hayden Conner in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
