Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Warren should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

When a board-topper like Tyler Warren slides to the 58th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The cost of the Conner reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In pick 25 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at pick No. 58 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
They will replay Kaleb Johnson at the 79th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They took Charles Grant at par in No. 89, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
By-the-book stuff, Seth McLaughlin at slot 166 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in Round 7, Pick 20 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick241 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Desmond Watson for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
