The Texans robbed the room for Hampton. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Omarion Hampton slide 27 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

In pick 25 they get a seam-stretching tight end, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel slipping to Round 3, Pick 15 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They took Charles Grant at par in the 89th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick166 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in the 166th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
The board had Carson Vinson higher than pick No. 236, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
A slide stopped in slot 241, with Desmond Watson worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
