Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB+
The Texans fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

The real work happened on the phones. The Texans fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.

Every board in the league had Thornton Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Braden Fiske deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerpiece for the ground game. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Marcus Mbow in pick No. 58. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97 Rnd3 Tai Felton
A straight-up fair deal on Tai Felton at Round 3, Pick 33, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at the 109th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 166, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick187 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
Value with a capital V on DJ Giddens in No. 187, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick206 Rnd6 Thomas Fidone II
No drama and no debate, Thomas Fidone II went about where he belonged in the 206th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick236 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at slot 236 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
Mac McWilliams in the 241st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
