The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Etienne: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Trevor Etienne, the No. 142 name on the board, stolen at slot 166. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Simpkins III left real value on the table behind him.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Josh Conerly Jr.
In the 25th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick58
Rnd2
Cameron Williams
The board had cheaper options than Cameron Williams at No. 58, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick79
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 15, with Jalen Royals worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick166
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Trevor Etienne in pick 166, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jaylin Lane
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylin Lane in pick No. 236. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick241
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Torricelli Simpkins III well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
