Edwards should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Daijun Edwards, the No. 205 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 236th pick.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86
Rnd3
Cade Stover
A curious use of slot 86. Interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a TE-EDGE in Cade Stover did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
They let Jarvis Brownlee Jr. come to them and pounced at pick No. 124. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at the 128th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick236
Rnd7
Daijun Edwards
Steal is underselling it; Daijun Edwards at pick 236 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
Circle this one: Josh Proctor at the 245th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick250
Rnd7
KT Leveston
A quiet steal in No. 250: KT Leveston for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
