The Texans cashed the board's mistake on Egbuka: B. Somebody in pick 58 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Emeka Egbuka, the No. 29 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. If Pegues pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick58
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Somehow Emeka Egbuka was still sitting there in the 58th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in slot 67. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick79
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson slipping to pick 79 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick89
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick166
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They reached into another round for JJ Pegues, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Caleb Ransaw
You do not let a safety like Caleb Ransaw reach pick No. 236 and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick241
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton in the 241st pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
