Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Texans lost the trade table, and the C- tells the story.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Texans shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. If Guerendo pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Hit on Kris Jenkins and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at pick No. 42 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick59 Rnd2 Junior Colson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at pick 59 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick70 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
They read the board right and Javon Bullard was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick123 Rnd4 Isaac Guerendo
They paid a round early for Isaac Guerendo in the 123rd overall pick, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick143 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith in slot 143 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick188 Rnd6 James Williams
Value with a capital V on James Williams in the 188th pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick190 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern in No. 190 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick205 Rnd6 Layden Robinson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Layden Robinson. The roster fit checks out.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ryan Watts
Fair-plus on Ryan Watts, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
