Romega74 DRAFTING FOR THETexans
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Trigg: B. When a board-topper like Michael Trigg slides to Round 5, Pick 27, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Rutledge to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot.
Pick38
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 6. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick59
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Taking Christen Miller in pick No. 59 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jadarian Price
A quiet steal in slot 69: Jadarian Price for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick106
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
They liked Keylan Rutledge enough to skip the value, taking him in the 106th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick128
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
Value with a capital V on Parker Brailsford in pick 128, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick165
Rnd5
Michael Trigg
Somehow Michael Trigg was still sitting there in the 165th pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick243
Rnd7
Zavion Thomas
The board had Zavion Thomas higher than No. 243, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244
Rnd7
Cole Payton
A clean, defensible pick in slot 244 with a little surplus value in Cole Payton. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
