The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Desmond Watson in the 132nd pick, a good 104 spots before the room expected him. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Stackhouse makes the weekend a net positive.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 25th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow in pick No. 39 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick58
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Wyatt Milum. It fills a real need, too.
Pick79
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
They reached a country mile for Dylan Fairchild at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick89
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
They paid sticker price for Cam Skattebo in Round 3, Pick 25, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Steal is underselling it; Andrew Mukuba at slot 100 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
They let Jared Wilson come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick132
Rnd4
Desmond Watson
Desmond Watson in slot 132 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick145
Rnd5
Ryan Fitzgerald
They reached into another round for Ryan Fitzgerald, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick162
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
They liked Chase Lundt enough to skip the value, taking him in the 162nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick236
Rnd7
Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse in pick No. 236 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at the 241st overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
