Draft Grade — Texans
Overall

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Texans to a D-. Nobody else had Gino Garcia anywhere near the 236th overall pick. The Texans did, by 69 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On value alone, Skattebo makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick51
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They jumped the gun on Donovan Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick58
Rnd2
Cameron Williams
They paid up for Cameron Williams at pick 58 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick79
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Omarr Norman-Lott in the 79th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A running back of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 9 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Nice patience on Tai Felton, who had no business lasting to slot 113. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick166
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Seth McLaughlin. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick236
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Gino Garcia well ahead of where he belonged. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick255
Rnd7
Brady Cook
A wild overpay on Brady Cook in Round 7, Pick 39, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
