Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans robbed the room for Bryant. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Cobee Bryant slide 39 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Conner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In pick No. 25 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
No edge and no loss on Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Paul Jr. at the 81st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick94 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deone Walker in pick 94. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122 Rnd4 LeQuint Allen
A reach on LeQuint Allen in Round 4, Pick 20; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at No. 160 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick191 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Fair-plus on Jaylen Reed, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick241 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
A premium they did not need to pay, Hayden Conner a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
