Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Reed should have been long gone. The Texans pounced, and earned a B.

The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaylen Reed, the No. 188 name on the board, in slot 236. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball. A fair-value weekend of trading, no edge to be found.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick37 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in the 37th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick58 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
They paid sticker price for Demetrius Knight Jr. in pick 58, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at the 68th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at Round 3, Pick 25 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick166 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
The board fumbled LeQuint Allen all the way to pick No. 166, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
Taking Jaylen Reed in No. 236 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick241 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks at slot 241 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
