Draft Grade — Texans
Overall
B-
ValueB

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Texans let Singleton fall and pounced. Final grade: B-. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Nicholas Singleton, the No. 87 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 106th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In the 28th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that.
Pick38
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
By-the-book stuff, Olaivavega Ioane at pick 38 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jake Slaughter at pick No. 59 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick69
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in No. 106 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
They took Jakobe Thomas at par in slot 128, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick165
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Jermaine Mathews Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick243
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
Will Kacmarek at the 243rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick244
Rnd7
Alex Harkey
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Alex Harkey. The roster fit checks out.
