Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jalen Coker at the 188th overall pick, a reach of 63 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Lassiter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick42 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brian Thomas Jr. in pick No. 42. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick59 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
The board fumbled Kamari Lassiter all the way to the 59th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick60 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at No. 60 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick64 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick66 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
They paid a round early for Michael Hall Jr. in the 66th pick, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick95 Rnd3 Blake Corum
Blake Corum at the 95th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123 Rnd4 Michael Pratt
They jumped the gun on Michael Pratt, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick124 Rnd4 Christian Jones
They paid up for Christian Jones at the 124th pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick127 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tommy Eichenberg. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick138 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in Round 5, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick139 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Nice patience on Ben Sinnott, who had no business lasting to slot 139. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Sione Vaki
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Sione Vaki worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick188 Rnd6 Jalen Coker
They reached a country mile for Jalen Coker at No. 188, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick247 Rnd7 Nathan Thomas
Taking Nathan Thomas in the 247th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
