Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Texans won the night they stopped Walker from sliding. Grade: D-.

Somebody in Round 7, Pick 20 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Devontez Walker, the No. 152 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. The Colson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chop Robinson at pick No. 24 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick26 Rnd1 T'Vondre Sweat
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick28 Rnd1 Ja'Tavion Sanders
In the 28th overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman in No. 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick34 Rnd2 Nate Wiggins
Nate Wiggins at pick 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick89 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in the 89th pick leaves quarterback for later.
Pick90 Rnd3 Amarius Mims
A reasonable price with a little left over, Amarius Mims in slot 90. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick91 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
A straight-up fair deal on TreVeyon Henderson at Round 3, Pick 28, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Junior Colson at pick 95 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick98 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They took Andrew Mukuba at par in slot 98, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick121 Rnd4 James Williams
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, James Williams adds a safety and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick124 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
They paid a round early for Donovan Jackson in the 124th pick, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Pick158 Rnd5 Jamari Thrash
They barely believed it either: Jamari Thrash still on the board at No. 158. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick240 Rnd7 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick242 Rnd7 Zy Alexander
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zy Alexander at pick No. 242. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
