Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesC FutureB+
Barton should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Lander Barton, the No. 127 name on the board, in pick No. 219.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In slot 6 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick19 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In No. 19 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
The board had Jalon Walker higher than the 38th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick73 Rnd3 Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. at Round 3, Pick 9 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Sampson at the 87th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick105 Rnd4 Maxwell Hairston
Good price on Maxwell Hairston in pick No. 105, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick 123 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140 Rnd5 Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick219 Rnd7 Lander Barton
Lander Barton in No. 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick222 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
They will replay Ollie Gordon II at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick237 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
A clean, defensible pick in slot 237 with a little surplus value in Shilo Sanders. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
