Draft Grade — Giants
Overall A
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Giants fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A.

The tape said wait; the Giants did not. Keith Randolph Jr. went at the 108th overall pick, a good 48 picks before the board was ready. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Tampa. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

It is not that Wilson is a bad player; it is that the Giants had louder needs to answer first.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 JC Latham
Somehow JC Latham was still sitting there in Round 2, Pick 5, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
A tidy little value on Xavier Legette in the 40th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
Value with a capital V on Tyler Nubin in the 43rd pick, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick49 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in No. 49, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick55 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 55, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
They robbed the room for Kamren Kinchens here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Payton Wilson at linebacker with interior defensive lineman and quarterback open.
Pick83 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, T.J. Tampa in slot 83, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick84 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving at No. 84 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
Circle this one: Malachi Corley at Round 3, Pick 34 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108 Rnd4 Keith Randolph Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Keith Randolph Jr. in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Cedric Gray while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and quarterback sat open.
Pick139 Rnd5 DJ James
They will replay DJ James at pick 139 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146 Rnd5 Will Shipley
A quiet steal in the 146th overall pick: Will Shipley for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick177 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at No. 177 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
The board had Kitan Oladapo higher than the Round 6 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick196 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in Round 6, Pick 21 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 218 is the definition of value, full stop. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
