FutureA+
Larceny in pick 247 lands the 49ers a A-, Hatten and all. The real work happened on the phones. The 49ers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
However the rest shakes out, Hatten at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The 49ers paired the rookies with proven help, Jamal Adams leading the way.
Bottom line, with Quinyon Mitchell leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick88
Rnd3
Quinyon Mitchell
They took Quinyon Mitchell at par in No. 88, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick90
Rnd3
Tory Horton
They paid sticker price for Tory Horton in Round 3, Pick 27, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98
Rnd3
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 98th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick126
Rnd4
Connor Colby
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Colby. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 177 with a little surplus value in Bru McCoy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204
Rnd6
Chau Smith-Wade
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Chau Smith-Wade for less than the market said. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick213
Rnd6
Mario Williams
Nice patience on Mario Williams, who had no business lasting to slot 213. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick215
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick247
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Hayden Hatten in pick 247, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
