Mbtester DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers let Torrence fall and pounced. Final grade: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ro Torrence, the No. 178 name on the board, stolen at No. 251. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In slot 31 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Haynes at pick No. 63, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
They will replay Payton Wilson at pick 94 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Good price on Blake Fisher in No. 124, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131
Rnd4
Javon Foster
The board had Javon Foster higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133
Rnd4
Josh Newton
Josh Newton slipping to Round 4, Pick 33 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick176
Rnd6
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith in the 176th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick211
Rnd6
Layden Robinson
Steal is underselling it; Layden Robinson at the 211th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215
Rnd6
Caedan Wallace
Caedan Wallace at the 215th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence at No. 251 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
