The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Evans: B. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Mitchell Evans, the No. 142 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 40.
Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen in the 37th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick68
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson is a better player than No. 68 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick97
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
A slide stopped in the 97th overall pick, with Ozzy Trapilo worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick140
Rnd5
Andrew Mukuba
Taking Andrew Mukuba in pick 140 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
No drama and no debate, Raheim Sanders went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick161
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
They robbed the room for Pat Bryant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
A wild overpay on Cam Jackson in pick No. 182, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick214
Rnd6
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in Round 6, Pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick218
Rnd6
Mitchell Evans
Somehow Mitchell Evans was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 40, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jack Nelson
The board fumbled Jack Nelson all the way to pick 224, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
