Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA-
FutureC+
Good, not great, for the Chiefs: B. Some picks age like wine; Keilan Robinson at No. 252 will need to, sitting 58 spots clear of his grade.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In pick 32 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ja'Lynn Polk in pick No. 80. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in slot 100, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick111
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
A conviction pick on Johnny Wilson at the 115th overall pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A clean, defensible pick in the 132nd pick with a little surplus value in Ben Sinnott. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick159
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Fair-plus on Kitan Oladapo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick173
Rnd5
Fabien Lovett
They paid a round early for Fabien Lovett in No. 173, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Ryan Flournoy
Nice patience on Ryan Flournoy, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 39. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252
Rnd7
Keilan Robinson
Keilan Robinson in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256
Rnd7
Sam Hartman
They paid sticker price for Sam Hartman in the 256th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
