Grand theft in pick No. 49: the Steelers steal Nubin and grade out a B-. Hard to follow the map here. The Steelers bypassed quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Maason Smith at pick No. 85, a spot they had covered.
Nubin at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Every board in the league had Lindberg lower, and that gap is the story.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at pick 49 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Ja'Lynn Polk
They paid sticker price for Ja'Lynn Polk in the 53rd pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick120
Rnd4
Max Melton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 20. It fills a real need, too.
Pick121
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Good price on Cedric Gray in slot 121, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick199
Rnd6
Austin Stogner
Austin Stogner in the 199th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick242
Rnd7
Chad Lindberg
The board had cheaper options than Chad Lindberg at No. 242, and it noticed. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
