The Bears let McAlister fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

Somebody in No. 241 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Eric McAlister, the No. 204 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

The back end got a real overhaul.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

In pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.

Chris Bell slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 25 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

Romello Height at the 89th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Steal is underselling it; Bud Clark at pick No. 129 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
