FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Vikings, and a B to prove it. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jaylen Reed in the 168th pick, a good 21 spots before the room expected him.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Briningstool at that price is a win they earned. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick96
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant in No. 96 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jordan Phillips
A conviction pick on Jordan Phillips at pick No. 97 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134
Rnd4
Kyle McCord
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle McCord at the 134th overall pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick139
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
A reach for O'Donnell Fortune in the 139th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick161
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
The board had Trevor Etienne higher than slot 161, and the running back fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick164
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tommi Hill in the 164th pick. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick165
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at pick No. 165 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Reed in Round 5, Pick 30 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187
Rnd6
Jake Briningstool
Jake Briningstool slid further than he should have, and pick 187 is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
